Dear Parents of the Netherlands Inter-community School,
Welcome to NIS for the 2016-2017 school year. We hope that you had a lovely holiday filled with rest, relaxation, friends and family. It is so great to see all of the children back at school with their bright smiles, and a skip in their steps.
We welcome two new staff members to our team: Ms. Marloes, of DS N1&2 teacher, and Mr. Irfan, our IT Coordinator. Also joining NIS, is a new teaching intern, Ms. Jade from Nottingham University. Ms. Jade will work in a variety of classrooms this coming school year. Please help us to make them all feel welcome at NIS!
NIS staff returned to work last week and have been busy with professional development. For our Early Years, we conducted and hosted 48 hours of training with the Ministry of Education (Early Years). Two other schools joined us, AIS and the Bunga Mulia School. Our Primary and Specialist teachers have been busy preparing their IPC routing, receiving training for SeeSaw (a new online portfolio system for students), and also regarding assessment practices. Primary and specialist teachers updated their First Aid certification as well with training provided by Medic One.
There will be a Positive Parenting Workshop and Parent Coffee Morning on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 beginning at 7:45 am at school. Parent coffee mornings happen monthly. We invite you to join us for friendship, dialogue, and discussion about school happenings.
At this initial meeting, there will be important information shared about how you can contribute to your child’s school experience by assisting with our Parent Support Group, or Participation Council. Ms. Femke will also be making a presentation on Positive Parenting. I hope to see you there!
On Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 7:00 pm, there will be a Parent Information Evening. The evening will begin in our gym with brief introductions, and afterwards parents will be invited to attend the classes for a short presentation by their child’s class teacher. Please join us for this informative event.
Newsletters for parents will be published bi-weekly on Wednesdays. The next issue will be sent on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. Should you wish to contact me in the meantime, please do not hesitate to send your inquiry to: firstname.lastname@example.org

Newsletter update Early Years:
Dear Early Years (EY) Parents,
Welcome back to all our returning families and welcome to all our new families. I hope you all had a wonderful, fun-filled, relaxing holiday. This year I have a non-teaching role at NIS and can be found in the front office, next to administration, where I will be sharing an office with Leona, the Primary Years Coordinator. Whilst I will very much miss being in front of my own class, I am excited that my new role will give me the opportunity to spend much more time with each of the EY classes working more closely with the teachers and students.
It has been an engaging first week back for our Early Years. The children have been getting to know their new environment. Our classrooms have been spaces of high inquiry and the playground an area for high adventure. There is such a happy, positive feeling in every classroom – it is a joy to be a part of it.
I am looking forward to catching up with many of you in the coming weeks. I will be on duty every Mon-Thurs in the front lobby. Please feel free to come and chat, ask questions, or let me know any concerns you have. For more in depth discussions please email me to set up an appointment.

Early Years Coordinator
Newsletter update Primary:
Dear Primary Years (PY) Parents,
Welcome back to our returning families and welcome to NIS for new families starting this year. I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer holiday.
For those of you who don’t know me; my name is Leona Dauphin and I am working as the coordinator for the primary year classes. I will be updating you on primary year’s activities and curriculum developments throughout the year. If you have any questions related to our programme of studies, feel free to speak to the classroom teacher or contact me. I can be reached by email (Leona.email@example.com) or set an appointment to come see me in my office (located in the front office).
Judging by the wonderful smiles on Monday all our students have had a great start to the new school year.
The primary year’s teachers returned to school last week and have been working hard to set up the classrooms and programming for this year.
The first two weeks all primary classes will be focusing on settling back into classroom routines and familiarising themselves with the IPC personal goals and NIS school rules.
We would appreciate if you could help us reinforce the school rules while on the NIS premises.
NIS High 5:
- Look after the school and the equipment
- Be kind and respectful to each other
- Walk around the school corridor sensibly and quietly
- Be prepared, work hard and try your best
- Listen carefully and follow instructions
We are looking forward to a fantastic year of learning and growing together. Our first IPC units will start in the third week of school. More information about the units will be shared through the classroom newsletters. We are also setting up a digital portfolio programme which will allow parents to have immediate access to students work and classroom activities. You will receive an invitation to join this programme as soon as the content is ready to be shared.
