Facilities

Our sprawling campus is one of the best assets of the NIS. Conveniently located between two main thoroughfares, when one enters the campus; the hustle and bustle of city noise melt away, allowing children to play and flourish in peaceful, calm surroundings. The school has the feeling of an open green oasis and children can enjoy playing under the shade of the big, beautiful trees that dot the campus.

The sports facilities are excellent and are often used by other schools and organizations. There is a big football field, indoor and outdoor basketball courts two swimming pools and a large air-conditioned gymnasium. A former class room is set up as a ballet/aerobics fitness room. Four tennis courts can be found directly behind the school premises.

Contact with the rest of the world is essential for an international school overseas. All computers in the classrooms as well as the computer lab have direct access to the internet and the library is set up to enable the pupils to discover the pleasure of reading for many years to come.

Library

Our newly renovated library is a central unit of our school. Our bookcases are packed with the latest English and Dutch picture-books, story books, reading books and reference books for every age group. In addition to reference books, there is a wonderful collection of DVD ‘s

All children will go to the Library with their class once a week and are welcome visit the library more often on their own.
Parents are certainly encouraged to borrow books and read with their children.


Sports Field
















NIS students can play on the sports field every day during the breaks and PE instruction. Our field is often used for MANIS activities as well. Each Saturday morning enthusiastic children, and their parents, can be seen enjoying a good game of football there. Other schools use the NIS field for their training sessions as well.

Due to the tropical climate in Jakarta, sports can be played outdoors all year round. The big trees cast shadows over the field, so the temperature never gets too balmy. During the rainy season all outdoor activities can be conducted in our large, air-conditioned gymnasium.

Directly behind the school premises there are four tennis courts. A tennis coach and ball boys are available.

Gymnasium/Auditorium/Theatre

There is a large air-conditioned gymnasium, supplied with a large variety of gymnastic equipment and fitted with marks on the floor for all the usual ball games. There are rings and ropes, monkey bars, a trampoline and a large floor mat, parallel bars and a pummel horse. The gymnasium is equipped with separate changing rooms and showers.

After school hours, the gymnasium is often used for basketball practice, taekwondo or by the Jakarta Badminton Club in the evening.

The gymnasium is also equipped with a large stage, making it an ideal place to organize special events for pupils and parents. In less than an hour, the gymnasium can be transformed into theatre for end of the month celebrations, school assemblies, festive theme openings, Christmas celebration, Book galas and the much anticipated End-of-the -Year Farewell Play. The gymnasium is also utilized for large parent meetings and informational gatherings.

Swimming Pools

There are two swimming pools located on the NIS campus; one toddler pool and a 25-meter long swimming pool. All groups, including toddlers, have swimming lessons once a week, accompanied by a professional swim coach. NIS students also have the unique opportunity to attain the Dutch swimming certificates A, B and C as well as all three swimming skills certificates.

The swimming pool is used by other schools and swim clubs such as the Sharks (junior international team) and the Marvelous Mermaids (women’s international team).


Computerlab

New state-of-the-art computers have been installed to help our pupils expand and enhance their computer skills. All students free to use the computer lab anytime.

From the start of the primary school years, computers are within easy reach for all pupils. Each class room has two computers so access to the internet is only a few steps away.

The computer is a fantastic tool for learning how to read and is used a great deal. It is also used for math and learning topography. Older students learn how to make use of programmes such as Word Perfect and PowerPoint and are able to apply their skills while writing essays, conducting research or preparing presentations.

The school has its own internal network and all computers are connected to the internet.
