Dear NIS Community,
A very happy new year to all of you. We hope that you had a wonderful, engaging and festive holiday with your family and that 2017 is going to be a happy, safe and rewarding year for all of you. And a warm welcome to all our new families.
2017 has already gotten off to an energetic start at NIS. On Monday, our teachers took part in Professional Development, which commenced with a workshop on mindfulness and emotional intelligence. All involved found this workshop productive and informative on a personal and professional level. The teachers are looking forward to implementing strategies they learned, about gauging children's emotions, in their classes.
We continued our PD day with a NIS staff Mannequin Challenge; you can see the impressive result here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGVJ3PhWnas&feature=youtu.be
We wrapped up our PD day by splitting into two groups. The Early Years took part in a workshop looking at the importance of observing children and how we use these observations to plan the best learning environment for your children.
The primary teachers focused on IPC. They were guided by Mr. Joris, the IPC coordinator and reviewed the IPC handbook for teachers/parents. We are looking forward to sharing this information with you shortly. With this handbook, we would like to give you a better understanding about the IPC curriculum. The Primary team also discussed alignment that will ensure that the IPC is taught throughout the primary years in a similar way. The teachers planned the first unit for this term, which is: Our World and Universe.
The energy from Monday continued yesterday as we welcomed back all our NIS families and welcomed 21 new students. The campus was buzzing with positive energy and stories of holiday adventures. It is a delight to watch the joy that comes from friends reuniting after a holiday period; and new friendships being formed.
We are pleased to announce that due to a change in circumstance, Ms. Sushila will be remaining at NIS. Ms. Sushila is delighted to be continuing this school year with her gorgeous Swan Class.
During the holidays Ms. Annina, our primary 1 /2 teacher decided not to return to NIS. We are saddened to see her go and are currently looking for the best solution to continue the beautiful vibe and education for this great group of children.

As reading is very important we would like to encourage our parents and students to use the library after school time. On Tuesday and Friday, the library is open from 2-3pm. Ms. Uka will be able to help you finding great books. Books can be changed at that time too.
Cito testing DS
From January 16 until January 20 the children from groep 1 until groep 8 will do their Cito Midden test. Result of these test can be discussed during the parent teacher conference at the 8th of February.
Little NIS Shop
The NIS shop that was created during the Christmas Market will continue and be run by parents. Currently this shop is selling second-hand goods. If you have any donations, please bring them into Yolla at the front office. In time this shop may sell food, crafts or NIS items. All proceeds from our shop go towards NIS. If you would like to be involved in running this store, please contact: email@example.com
You have probably noticed that Roy, the Dutch Baker, has not been at NIS for some time now. Before the holidays he was in poor health and using his staff to keep his shop open. Unfortunately, over the holidays all his staff have left and he is now a one-man baking show, which prevents him from being able to come to NIS each morning. Roy would still love your business and is happy to bake for you. He has a shop close to school at: Jl. Guru Saleh No. 2B, Cilandak Timur and you can place your orders via whatsapp on 0812 9738 1254.
This year we will update the NIS website and start new marketing activities to promote the school. As part of the promotion of the school, NIS is looking for testimonials from teachers, students, parents and alumni. These testimonials will be collected in the coming two weeks. They can be writing in English, Bahasa, Korean or Dutch. We would appreciate your words telling us why NIS is important to you. You can mail your testimonial to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Our MANIS registration is in full swing! We are happy to see that many of our families have chosen for one or more activities. We would like to use this opportunity to promote our program for parents as well. We offer Bahasa lessons and English Lessons (multilevel!)...so now is the time to work on your language skills! Or, if you wish to work on your fitness, why not join our Parent Swimming lessons, yoga or Zumba? Feel free to enrol for a trial and see if you like it.
A friendly reminder to all parents who have already signed up for activities: please make sure to do the payment before Friday to secure the spot. And don’t forget to bring the Confirmation Letter(s) with you if you pay in cash or card at the Front Office. If you transfer by bank account, please do not forget to include name and activity. Many thanks in advance!
